Taxi accident claims

Taxi injury compensation claims
If you have been injured as a result of a taxi accident, you may be able to make a claim for compensation. The claim can be made against the taxi driver (or the taxi operator they work for) if they are at fault.

What can you do if you suffer injury in a taxi accident?

If you have been injured as a result of a taxi accident, you may be able to make a claim for compensation. The claim can be made against the taxi driver (or the taxi operator they work for) if they are at fault. If another driver was responsible for the accident then the claim can be made against their insurers.

There are a number of scenarios where taxi accident claims arise:

  • Passengers injured in a taxi collision: If you were a passenger in the taxi that has been involved in a collision with another vehicle then you are likely to have a claim against either the taxi operator or the other driver’s insurance company. If no other vehicle was involved then the claim would be made against the taxi company. It is important that you always wear a seat-belt when travelling in a taxi and failure to do so could result in your compensation being reduced by up to 25% due to ‘contributory negligence’ – a failure by the passenger to ensure their own safety.
  • Taxi drivers who are injured: If a taxi driver is injured while at work they may have a claim against another driver or, possibly, the company that employs them.
  • Other types of taxi accident: Not all taxi accidents involve a collision. We have represented a number of passengers who have been injured as a result of a taxi driver’s carelessness. In one taxi accident claim we recently settled, our client won compensation of £5,500 after a taxi driver pulled away suddenly before she had fully got into the vehicle

The Injuries involved in taxi accidents commonly include:

  • Whiplash;
  • Broken bones;
  • Cuts and bruises; and
  • Psychological symptoms
